Power costs going up
Matanuska Electric Association customers will see their electric bills rise by an average of $9 per month beginning immediatly, according to a press release issued by MEA Monday, April 8.
The cooperative said a recent 42 percent increase in the rate MEA pays Chugach Electric is causing the rate increase. The Regulatory Commission of Alaska (RCA) approved the increase in February.
According to the release, Chugach is raising the rate it charges for wholesale power in order to offset costs from the new Southcentral Power Project in west Anchorage.
