The votes are in. Amy Demboski is Chugiak-Eagle River’s next Anchorage Assembly member.

The municipal election was certified by the Assembly at its Tuesday, April 16 meeting, and Demboski was sworn in immediately after.

With all 18 precincts reporting, Demboski received 3,171 votes to runner-up Pete Mulcahy’s 2,794. Demboski held a 348-vote lead before the city clerk counted absentee ballots Saturday, April 13.

Eagle River’s Bob Lupo received less than five percent of the vote.

Demboski replaces three-term Assemblywoman Debbie Ossiander, who was recently elected to the Chugiak Volunteer Fire Department Board of Supervisors.

Though he would have preferred a different outcome, Mulcahy said he was happy with his effort in the campaign.

“I can hold my head up high,” he said in an interview Tuesday, April 16. “I don’t feel defeated.”

Demboski did not respond to repeated requests for comment.
