An online fundraiser has been set up to benefit the Miss Alaska Foundation in the name of Keri Schroeder, a former Miss Alaska and 1986 Chugiak High grad who died of cancer in 2012. Schroeder was involved with the Miss Alaska Scholarship Pageant since 1986. She began as a contestant in local pageants, winning the title of Miss Chugiak-Eagle River in 1988. Throughout her competition years she held several titles including Miss Anchorage and Miss Alaska 1992. After the completion of her year of service as Miss Alaska, she continued to volunteer with the program as producer, mentor, board member, and judge.
Schroeder’s brother-in-law, Bret, has set up a website at www.crowdrise.com/fundraiser/manage_campaign/kerischroeder/bretschroeder where people can donate in Keri’s name.
Bret Schroeder said donors raised more than $1,600 in just the first week of his campaign.
“This is not only a testament to impact that Keri had on people that she touched, but also on technology as a fundraising accelerator,” Schroeder wrote in an email.
