Man arrested for Walmart robbery
A 22-year-old Eagle River man was arrested Tuesday, June 18 after he allegedly fired shots while attempting to steal windshield wiper blades from Walmart.
Wesley Weinburger was taken into custody by Anchorage Police Tuesday morning after police arrested him at home just a few blocks away in Eaglewood Subdivision. According to APD spokeswoman Dani Myren, Weinburger was charged with 1st Degree Robbery, 3rd Degree Criminal Mischief and 4th Degree Theft.
According to Myren, Weinburger was first confronted around 1:30 a.m. by Walmart employees who accused him of concealing a set of $20 wiper blades near the front check-out area.
Weinburger allegedly pushed past the employees and ran toward a set of locked entry doors, firing multiple shots. Myren said Weinburger then turned around and ran out of thes store through a set of unlocked doors.
Police using K-9 dogs located some of Weinburger’s clothing in a neighrbor’s yard, and he was aprehended at home a short time later.
