Chugiak’s historic Spring Creek Lodge earned a place on the National Register of Historic Places, and a celebration was set to mark the event. “Anyone who wants to stop by and share memories of the lodge is welcome,” said Dixie Waddell. Homesteaders Vernon and Alma Haik built the lodge, which opened in 1949. Alma’s banana cream pies were the specialty of the house. Other items included hamburgers for 75 cents, steak and eggs for $2.85 and a slice of cake or pie for 35 cents.

An Eagle River woman called police to report that her son’s skateboard had been stolen. She noticed it was gone after a pizza delivery had been made at her house. She went to the pizza establishment to talk to the manager and tell him that she suspected his pizza delivery person had taken it. He called the driver back to the store, and the mother and manager allegedly found the skateboard in the driver’s car. He said other people had been in his car, and he didn’t know where the skateboard came from.
