The Anchorage Fire Department is reminding residents that fireworks are illegal over the Fourth of July holiday. According to AFD, anyone caught using fireworks is subject to a $500 fine.

There is also currently a burn ban in effect in the Anchorage area. According to AFD spokesman Al Tamagni, the only exceptions to the ban are propane, electric and charcoal grills.

Unusually warm, dry weather in June has contributed to high to extreme fire danger across Southcentral Alaska. For more information on the burn ban, visit
