Two dead in Chugiak shooting
Two people died in an early morning shooting Oct. 17 in Chugiak.
After its preliminary investigation, Anchorage Police said it was a murder-suicide that killed Nita Kilapsuk, 40, and Michael Hagood, 49.
Kilapsuk, of Nuiqsut, called police just after 4 a.m. to report a verbal argument between her and Hagood, Kilapsuk’s boyfriend. During the call, Kilapsuk said she wanted to leave the residence — a converted People Move bus — on the 21000 block of Valley Avenue, but Hagood, of Anchorage, had a gun and wouldn’t let her leave, APD said.
It appeared the phone was passed back and forth between Kilapsuk and Hagood while they were talking with dispatch, APD spokesperson Jennifer Castro said. The dispatcher attempted to convince Hagood to put his weapon down and leave the bus, she said.
The call was disconnected after six minutes, Castro said.
Two officers arrived on scene seven minutes after Kilapsuk called, Castro said. They heard two gunshots a minute after arriving, she said.
The officers found Hagood and Kilapsuk dead inside the residence.
“The two appeared to be the sole residents of the home and no other persons were located on the property,” APD said in a written statement.
APD suspects Hagood shot his girlfriend before turning the gun on himself, Castro said.
Alcohol is believed to be a factor, she said.
