A fast growing community

According to a report from the University of Alaska Anchorage Institute of Social and Economic Research, Eagle River is one of the state’s fastest growing communities.

Developers are clearing lots on West Skyline Drive and Eagle River Loop Road in preparation for 28 new homes in Roseberry Parks Estates, the Star reported.

Dove Tree Townhouses is adding 47 units to its downtown Eagle River location. Thirty-three new home sites are ready in Powder Ridge, with another 60 to 70 likely to be available by spring.

A pair of condominium developments are also in the works. Hidden Hills will feature 60-plus units across from Eagle River Elementary.

Population increasing in Eagle River

The Eagle River population has nearly tripled since 1980, according to a report by the State of Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development. The population in 2005 was 34,108 — up from 12,858 in 1980.

The report also said that military families accounted for 30 percent of Eagle River’s population last year.
