Eagle River teen shines on ice

2005 Chugiak High graduate Jesse Cherry was recently named to the cross country running Big South Conference’s 2000s All-Decade Team. Cherry ran for High Point (N.C.) University’s NCAA Division I program from 2005-2010.

Last year, Cherry finished 29th at the U.S. Olympic Trials Marathon.

In a Mustangs’ uniform, Cherry won two individual state cross country running titles and helped Chugiak’s boys win a state team title in 2002.

Turner third at regionals

Eagle River’s Xinghua Turner, 16, finished third at the Northwest Pacific Regional Figure Skating Championships in Tacoma, Wash., in October. She will be competing in the Pacific Coast Sectional Figure Skating Championships on Nov. 19-23 in Oakland, Calif.



Wolves top T-Bird invite

Eagle River High’s Tristan Henderson and Cat Papasodora finished one-two at East’s T-Bird Invitational on Saturday, Nov. 9. Henderson fired a 579 and Papasodora shot a 578. Eagle River’s Jake Nall placed 10th with 560 points.

Garrett Johnson (555) led Chugiak with a 12th-place finish.


Eagle river nips Chugiak

Papasodora fired a match-high 291 to help Eagle River edge Chugiak 3,184-3,168 on Friday, Nov. 8. Henderson shot a perfect 100 in the prone position and a 288 for the match. Clarissa Deleon and Jake Nall each fired 277 for the Wolves.

Johnson’s 286 led all Chugiak shooters. Emily Vannortwick shot a 277 and Delaney Hawkins fired a 275 for the Mustangs.
