"Civil defense test this Sunday"

Wednesday, November 13, 2013 - 19:00

This article was published in the April 22, 1954, issue of the Chugiak Calendar, a mimeographed weekly paper published by Cloyce and Justine Parks. It was the forerunner to the Knik Arm Courier:

An area of the greater Chugiak Civil Defense District will be bombed as part of the Civil Defense exercise on Sunday, April 25 between the hours of 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. Traffic will be controlled by the CD Police from the Yellow Alert, on the Red Alert will be completely stopped and after 15 minutes will be again on the move under control.

All six areas of the greater Chugiak Civil Defense Area have made extensive plans to participate in this operation.

The one held about a year ago hit the newspapers all over the United States and even in Time magazine. Chugiak residents are asked to remain near their homes where they will be available if the situation arises.

Only official CD cars will be allowed to move on the Highway during the Red Alert.

Area 1 will have headquarters at Pippel’s warehouse; Dale Briggs, director.

Area 2, Parks’ office; Cloyce Parks, director.

Area 3 at Stockhausen’s; John Stockhausen, director.
