Eagle River 11, Bartlett 3

Blake Rinckey, Kyle Johnson and Schuyler Davis each scored hat tricks in Eagle River’s 11-3 win over Bartlett on Tuesday, Nov. 19 at Ben Boeke. Blake Halfpenny scored two goals for the Wolves.


Eagle River 6, Kenai 4

Kyle Johnson scored two and a half minutes into the third period to break a 4-4 tie and help Eagle River to a 6-4 win over Kenai Central at the McDonald Center on Saturday, Nov. 16.

Goals by Rinckey, Davis, Wyatt Beebe and Halfpenny put the Wolves up 4-1 late in the second period. But Kenai scored three goals in a span of 1 minute, 18 seconds to tie the game heading into the third.

Kacey Clark added an insurance goal for Eagle River with 6:31 to play. Jesse Johnson, Halfpenny and Davis had two assists apiece for the Wolves.


Chugiak 9, Kenai 1

Kris Tomazevic racked up four goals and two assists to help Chugiak cruise past Kenai 9-1 on Friday, Nov. 15 at the Mac.

Taylor Garner, John Hammer, William Casey, Ted Walters and Zachary Krajnik also scored for the Mustangs, who tallied four short-handed goals.

Chugiak played South on Wednesday, Nov. 20, but a score was not available when the Star went to press.



Chugiak downs East

Garrett Johnson fired a match-high 285 to help Chugiak beat East 3,130-2,983 on Friday, Nov. 15. Emily Vannortwick shot 280 for the Mustangs.


Eagle River beats Bartlett

Cat Papasodora fired a match-high 291 — including a perfect 100 in the prone position — to help Eagle River get past Bartlett 3,246-3,119 on Friday, Nov. 15. Jessica Mooty (288), Tristan Henderson (286), Ben Hancox (284) and Jake Nall (283) all shot in the 280s for the Wolves.



Eagle River sweeps East

Eagle River opened Alaska Scholastic Bowling League play with a sweep over East on Nov. 14 at Eagle River Bowl.

Bobby Leibbrand led the boys to a 33-2 victory with a high of 200 (175 average). Shannon Jones rolled games of 221 and 214 to help Eagle River’s girls cruise to a 29-6 victory.

Dimond’s Ryan Esteban bowled a perfect 300 (average 277) to help the Lynx sweep Chugiak with a 25-10 win in the boys game and 29-6 victory in the girls game. Savannah Hudson led Chugiak’s girls with a high game 189 (162 average), and Marcus Gamble rolled a 211 in one game for the boys.


CHS grad plays in NCAA soccer tourney

2011 Chugiak High graduate Kendra Bulawa recently played in the NCAA Division II women’s soccer tournament. Bulawa plays for the Colorado School of Mines, which went 19-1-1 this season and won the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference championship.

The Orediggers, who earned the top seed in the South Central Region of the 48-team NCAA tournament, lost 3-1 to Metro State in the second round Sunday, Nov. 17.
