Local bowling teams roll to victory

Eagle River hockey goes 1-2 on Fairbanks road trip


Local teams earn sweeps

Chugiak and Eagle River cruised to victories in the second week of play in the Anchorage Scholastic Bowling League on Thursday, Nov. 21 at Jewel Lake Bowl.

Alex Leibbrand rolled a 231 to help Eagle River’s boys down Service 25-10. Bobby Leibbrand had a high score of 200 for the Wolves.

Shannon Jones bowled a high score of 184 to help Eagle River’s girls to a 27-8 victory over the Cougars.

Robert Burton’s 212 helped Chugiak’s boys down West 31-4. Marcus Gamble rolled a high score of 205 for the Mustangs.

Chugiak’s girls earned the sweep with a 27-8 win over the Eagles.



North Pole 3, Eagle River 2

Kyle Johnson and Wyatt Beebe scored for the Wolves in a 3-2 loss to North Pole on Saturday, Nov. 23 at Polar Ice Arena.

Eagle River played South on Tuesday, Nov. 26, but a score was not available when the Star went to press.


West Valley 9, Eagle River 0

West Valley blanked Eagle River 9-0 on Friday, Nov. 22 at the Patty Center.


Eagle River 4, Lathrop 0

Jesse Johnson scored a pair of goals to help Eagle River down Lathrop 4-0 on Nov. 21 at the Patty Center. Blake Halfpenny and Riley Annis also scored for the Wolves. Beebe had three assists and Connor Canterbury had two for Eagle River.

Jeffrey Hartmann made 19 saves for the shutout.


South 3, Chugiak 2

Chugiak scored twice in the final minute and a half, but South hung on for a 3-2 win Nov. 20 at Ben Boeke. Taylor Garner and Jonathan Banovetz scored goals for the Mustangs.

Chugiak’s games scheduled for Friday and Saturday were canceled due to weather. The Mustangs played West on Monday, Nov. 25, but a score was not available before the Star went to press.
