Horton takes first at North-South wrestling tourney
Chugiak goes 1-2
Robert Huffer (152 pounds) won three matches for Chugiak, which went 1-2 in a quad meet against Dimond, East and Service at Dimond High on Tuesday, Dec. 10.
Richard Burroughs (220 pounds) and Toren Cheely (195) earned two pinfall wins for the Mustangs.
Eagle River competed in a quad meet against Bartlett, West and South on Wednesday, Dec. 11, but results were not available when the Star went to press.
Horton wins North-South tourney
Eagle River senior Xavier Horton earned a 12-6 decision over Wasilla’s DJ Morrow in the 170-pound championship match at the North-South wrestling meet in Wasilla on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 6-7.
Eagle River’s Gavin Arnold (138) took second after South’s Kraig Hammond won by pinfall in 3:30.
Robert Huffer (152) led Chugiak with a third-place finish, winning by injury default over Colony’s Wade Booth.
Colony won the team title with 207 points. Eagle River (59) was eighth and Chugiak (40) was 11th out of 14 teams.
Dimond 45, Eagle River 39
Kyle Daniel (145), Marcus Amico (138), Xavier Hannah (145), Michael Prado (152), Justin Vanderlooven (160), Jimmy Stemper (170) and Xavier Horton (182) all earned wins for Eagle River in its 45-39 loss to Dimond on Dec. 4.
Dimond 4, Eagle River 2
Schuyler Davis and Kyle Johnson scored goals for Eagle River in the Wolves’ 4-2 loss to Dimond on Tuesday, Dec. 10 at the McDonald Center.
West 2, Eagle River 1
Jesse Johnson scored Eagle River’s lone goal in a 2-1 loss to West on Dec. 4 at Ben Boeke.
Dimond 5, Chugiak 2
Sam Hanson and John Hammer notched tallies for Chugiak in a 5-2 loss to Dimond on Dec. 3 at the Mac.
South edges Eagle River
South edged Eagle River by just 14 points (3,269-3,255) in a match were both teams shot at their own school and submitted results electronically Dec. 4.
Cat Papasodora recorded a match-high 292 for the Wolves. Jessica Mooty (285), Tristan Henderson (285), Ben Hancox (284), Sydney Deering (280) and Jake Nall (280) all fired 280 or better for Eagle River.
Three Wolves in top 20 at Mayor’s 100
Three Eagle River shooters cracked the top 20 at the Mayor’s 100 at Bartlett High on Dec. 3. Papasodora finished fourth with a 397-30 followed by Henderson (395-32) in seventh and Deering (395-31) in eighth.
Dimond’s Brendon Laporte finished first overall with a 398-27.
