Chugiak basketball sweeps Wolves

Eagle River 9, East 2

Kyle Johnson scored a hat trick to help Eagle River down East 9-2 on Tuesday, Jan. 14 at Ben Boeke. Blake Rinckey, Jesse Johnson and Kory Cain scored two goals apiece for the Wolves.


South 9, Chugiak 1

Taylor Garner scored Chugiak’s lone goal in a 9-1 loss to South on Tuesday, Jan. 14 at the McDonald Center.


Eagle River 6, Homer 0

Schuyler Davis netted a hat trick to help Eagle River down visiting Homer 6-0 on Saturday, Jan. 11 at the Mac. Wyatt Beebe, Blake Halfpenny and Kyle Johnson also scored for the Wolves.

Jeffrey Hartmann made 19 saves to earn the shutout.


West Valley 5, Chugiak 1

William Casey scored Chugiak’s lone goal in a 5-1 loss to West Valley on Saturday, Jan. 11 at the Patty Center.


Chugiak 4, North Pole 0

Sam Hammer, John Hammer, Adam Groendyke and Garner scored goals in Chugiak’s 4-0 win over North Pole on Friday, Jan. 10 at Polar Ice Arena.


Wasilla 5, Eagle River 3

Anthony Fan scored twice and Cain added a goal in Eagle River’s 5-3 loss to Wasilla on Jan. 9 at the Mac.


Chugiak 7, Lathrop 0

Chugiak cruised to a 7-0 win over Lathrop on Jan. 9 at the Big Dipper Ice Arena. Casey scored twice, and John Hammer, Andrew Beckett, Garner, Groendyke and Jonathan Banovetz added one apiece for the Mustangs.




Chugiak 50, Eagle River 12

Nine different Mustangs recorded points in Chugiak’s 50-12 win over visiting Eagle River on Tuesday, Jan. 14. Carly Stone scored a game-high 12 points for Chugiak. Lauren Frost led Eagle River with seven points.


BCS 36, Wasilla Lake 14

Bryce Vickers (14 points) and Aubrey Becker (10) led Birchwood Christian School to a 36-14 win over visiting Wasilla Lake Christian on Tuesday, Jan. 14.


Ninilchik 36, BCS 17

Tia Goward’s nine points led the visiting Warriors in a 36-17 loss to Peninsula Conference foe Ninilchik on Saturday, Jan. 11.


CIA 40, BCS 27

Vickers’ 11 points led Birchwood in a 40-27 loss to Cook Inlet Academy on Friday, Jan. 10 at CIA. Vickers drained three 3-pointers in the first quarter of the Peninsula Conference game.



Chugiak 53, Eagle River 51

Chugiak edged visiting Eagle River 53-51 on Tuesday, Jan. 14. Jared Phearson scored a game-high 14 points for Chugiak. Kade Randall scored 10 points for the Mustangs.

Justin Patin (11 points), R.J. Dirscherl (10) and Eric Anderson (10) all reached double digits for Eagle River.


Wasilla Lake 44, BCS 40

Tyler Keiffer racked up 31 points for Birchwood Christian School, but visiting Wasilla Lake Christian came away with a 44-40 win Tuesday, Jan. 14.


Ninilchik 63, BCS 56

Birchwood held an 11-point lead going into the final quarter, but host Ninilchik outscored the Warriors 22-4 in the final eight minutes to earn a 63-56 Peninsula Conference win Saturday, Jan. 11. Keiffer (21 points), Dakota Buyse (14) and Collin Becker (10) all reached double digits for BCS.


CIA 58, BCS 18

Cook Inlet Academy cruised to a 58-18 Peninsula Conference win over visiting Birchwood on Friday, Jan. 10. Keiffer scored a team-high nine points for the Warriors.
