Eagle River’s Kenzie Smith won three events — beam, floor, bars — and took the all-round title by more than four points at a gymnastics meet against Service and host Dimond on Friday, Sept. 13.
Smith, Eagle River’s only gymnast, scored a total 34.9 points. Service edged Dimond by 1.525 points to win the team title.
Host Chugiak scored 110.7 points to finish second behind South (196.9) on Friday. East was third with 81.2 points.
Chugiak’s Maddie Smith turned in a pair of third-place performances in beam and bars before injuring her foot. Alicia Reitz and Bella Wiggins finished sixth and seventh, respectively, overall for the Mustangs.
Chugiak has a dual against Service at Dimond on Friday, Sept. 20 at 4:30 p.m.
ER swim sweeps East
Six Eagle River swimmers won two individual events apiece to help the Wolves’ swimming and diving team sweep East on Friday, Sept. 13 at Bartlett’s pool.
Courtney Fox-Singh won four events to help the girls to a lopsided 132-34 victory. Along with swimming a leg of the winning 200 medley and 200 free relays, Fox-Singh won the 50 free and 100 free.
Julia Geskey (100 fly, 100 breast), Kate Maker (200 IM, 100 back) and Jordyn Bruce (200 free, 500 free) also won two individual events each for the Wolves.
On the boys’ side, Blaise Fox-Icarro (100 fly, 50 free) and Brandon Fast (200 IM, 100 breast) won two events apiece to help Eagle River to a 114-47 win.
The Wolves have a dual against Valdez on Friday, Sept. 20 at Bartlett.
Dimond sweeps Chugiak
Dimond’s boys won every event to earn a 145-41 win over visiting Chugiak on Friday, Sept. 13. Dimond’s girls won 115-64 to earn the sweep.
Chugiak’s Emmie Jennings won two individual events (50 free, 100 breast) and swam a leg of the winning 400 free relay along with Abby Blackstone, Sammy Burke and Marissa Headrick. Chugiak also got wins from Burke (200 free) and Olivia Peterson (diving).
The Mustangs are co-hosting the Bartlett/Chugiak Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 21 at Bartlett.
Boggs leads locals at Skinny Raven 3K
Eagle River junior Nikki Boggs finished fifth overall among varsity girls to lead all local runners at the Skinny Raven Urban Race on Thursday, Sept. 12 at the Delaney Park Strip in Anchorage.
Boggs finished the 3-kilometer course in 11 minutes, 34 seconds to help the Wolves place fifth as a team.
Chugiak’s Sara Hartke was 20th overall for the seventh-place Mustangs.
Service’s Aislinn Waite was the top female with a time of 11:17. West High won the girls team title.
Ty Jordan and David McPhetres cracked the top 10 to help Chugiak’s boys to a third-place team finish. Jordan’s time of 9:38 was good enough for seventh overall among varsity boys. McPhetres placed 10th and teammate Roan Hall was 15th.
Alec Smith finished 16th overall to lead Eagle River’s boys, who finished eighth as a team.
Anchorage Christian Schools’ Austin Monzon was the overall boys winner in 9:30. South High won the team title.
Chugiak is hosting a quad meet with Eagle River, Dimond and East on Friday, Sept. 20 at 4:30 p.m.
Flag football: East 12, Eagle River 0
East blanked Eagle River 12-0 on Tuesday, Sept. 17 at AFS.
The Wolves host Chugiak on Saturday, Sept. 21 for their homecoming game at noon. Eagle River travels to Dimond on Tuesday, Sept. 24 at 6 p.m. Chugiak plays West at AFS on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
Chugiak 31, Bartlett 7
Ashleigh Sitz threw four touchdown passes to lead Chugiak past Bartlett 31-7 on Tuesday, Sept. 17 at AFS. Sitz connected with Holly Brehmer for three scores and threw one TD to Alexis Oldham.
Kylie Baker caught a touchdown pass from Alise Arnold for the Mustangs’ other score.
Eagle River 18, Service 14
Lauren Frost took a 5-yard run into the end zone for the game-winning score with four minutes left in the fourth quarter to lift Eagle River flag football to its first victory of the season 18-14 over visiting Service on Sept. 12.
Frost also connected with Brooklin Barnes on a 65-yard touchdown pass. Jazmin Mercado scored on a 5-yard run for the Wolves’ other TD.
South 13, Chugiak 7
Brehmer scored Chugiak’s lone touchdown on a 25-yard reception from Sitz in a 13-7 loss to visiting South on Sept. 12.
Volleyball: Colony 3, ER 1
Nonconference Colony defeated Eagle River 3-1 (18-25, 25-11, 25-16, 25-19) on Tuesday, Sept. 17.
Chugiak 3, Service 1
Chugiak downed visiting Service 3-1 (25-19, 25-15, 21-25, 25-23) on Sept. 12.
Rachel Gregg had eight kills and six digs for the Mustangs. Anna Ingraham recorded 10 assists and four digs for Chugiak, which got seven kills and three blocks from Natalie Stark.
