Police say incident was murder-suicide

A shooting in Chugiak that resulted in two deaths is being called a murder-suicide, according to Anchorage Police.

The victims were identified as 40-year-old Nita Kilapsuk and 49-year-old Michael Hagood.

Kilapsuk called police at 4:03 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 17 to report a verbal argument between her and Hagood, Kilapsuk’s boyfriend, APD said in a statement. During the call, Kilapsuk said she wanted to leave the residence on the 21000 block of Valley Ave., but Hagood had a gun and wouldn’t let her leave, APD said.

As officers responded, dispatch lost contact with Kilapsuk, APD said. Officers arrived seven minutes after Kilapsuk called and heard gunshots. They found Kilapsuk and Hagood dead inside the residence, APD said.

“The two appeared to be the sole residents of the home and no other persons were located on the property,” APD said.

Next of kin have been notified.
