Top-seeded Lynx bump Chugiak from CIC tourney
Chugiak was knocked out of the Cook Inlet Conference volleyball tournament by the top-seeded Dimond Lynx on Friday, Nov. 3 at Service High.
The Lynx came out hot and stayed that way, winning 25-18, 25-21, 25-15 to secure a spot in the third-place match against South for a spot in the state tournament.
The sixth-seeded Mustangs reached the consolation round semifinals with a four-set win over Service on Thursday, pulling away from the host Cougars 25-18, 23-25, 25-22, 25-13.
No. 8 seed Eagle River lost its two tournament matches in straight sets and was eliminated by West on Wednesday.
CHS trio named second-team All-CIC
Chugiak’s Sophia Lestina, Malia Mortensen and Kaitlyn Eastman were named to the second-team All-Cook Inlet Conference team announced following the CIC tournament. Lestina is a junior outside hitter, Mortensen is a senior libero and Eastman is a senior right hitter.
Senior setter Allison chase was honorable mention for the Mustangs, as was Eagle River’s Shelby Dunn.
Chugiak also won the Cook Inlet Conference team academic award with a combined 3.89 grade point average.
