PREP PUCKS: Eagle River hockey bounces back, Mustangs 4th in Big Lake

Eagle River improved to 3-5 in the Cook Inlet Conference with a 6-2 win over Service on Tuesday, Dec. 12 at Ben Boeke.

Tucker Lien scored two goals and Ty McEnaney notched a goal and three assists to lead the Wolves. Nick Silance, Michael Maddox and Nat Nielsen also scored for Eagle River.

Ryan Gray made 31 saves for Eagle River, which won despite getting outshot 33-24.

Landon Hill and Ben Martensen scored for Service, which got 18 saves from Kevin Taunton.

Eagle River plays first-place South Thursday, Dec. 14 at 7:15 p.m. at the McDonald Center in Eagle River.

Chugiak fourth in Houston

Chugiak earned a 3-2 win over Monroe Saturday, Dec. 9 in the fourth-place game at the Big Lake Lions Tournament in Big Lake.

Luke Momblow, Daniel Casey and Grant Epple scored for the Mustangs, who won both games they played in the tournament. Tanner Holta made 21 saves for Chugiak, which outshot the Rams 30-23.

Chugiak advanced to the fourth-place game with a 12-1 rout of Hutchison.

The Mustangs were forced to forfeit their opening round game against Juneau when after-school activities were called off by Anchorage School District officials. Although the tournament started as scheduled, the Mustangs were unable to participate due to district rules that stipulate all district schools must pull out of after-school activities when there’s a districtwide cancellation.

Wasilla won the tournament, knocking off host Houston 4-1 in the final. Following the final game, Casey was named to the all-tournament team alongside Houston defenseman Reed Humphreys, Monroe defenseman Riley Ott, Wasilla forward Porter Schachle, Kenai Central forward Levi Meese and Houston goalie Rylee Bolinder.

Golden Bears knock off Wolves

Bartlett earned it’s first win of the season Friday, Dec. 8 with a 4-3 Cook Inlet Conference hockey win over Eagle River at Ben Boeke.

Brad Macklin scored twice for Bartlett (1-6), which also got goals from Mark Abrego and Chad Beals.

Ian Newman, Nat Nielsen and Brayden Rachow scored for Eagle River (2-5).

Haydin LaFlamme made 20 saves for Bartlett, which outshot the Wolves 29-23. Chandler Annis made 21 saves on 24 shots and Ryan Gray stopped four of five for the Wolves, who face Service at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12 at Ben Boeke.
