A trio of area prep basketball teams tweeted as they took to the skies for holiday tournaments this week, with the Eagle River boys flying to Phoenix, the Eagle River girls catching a plane to Kodiak and the Chugiak girls soaring south to Juneau.

All three teams tweeted out farewell messages Dec. 26, with the Eagle River teams posing for in-airport team photos and the Mustangs firing off a final message as they headed out for the Capital City Classic in Juneau:

“Wheels up Capital City bound!! #tournamenttime” tweeted @chsladybball as the team’s morning flight left Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport.

The Eagle River boys (@ERHSBasketball) posed in front of a brown bear with the tweet “Phoenix bound!! #TournamentTime” as the team prepared for its flight to the Cactus Jam tournament in Arizona.

The newly created Eagle River Lady Wolves Twitter (@ERLadyWolveVar) posted a team photo in front of a Christmas tree with the message “On our way to the Joe Floyd Tournament in Kodiak Home everyone had a Merry Christmas”

The Chugiak girls were the only team to fly and play on the same day, opening their tournament Tuesday evening.

The Joe Floyd tourney runs Dec. 27-29, while the Cactus Jam is Dec. 27-30.
