HOCKEY: Wolves go 2-1 on Interior trip; Chugiak drops pair before rivalry game

A three-day trip to Interior ice ended on a high note for Eagle River on Saturday with a 6-3 victory over West Valley highlighted by a hat trick from Nat Nielsen and a pair of goals by Ty McEnaney.
The Wolves will play rival Chugiak Thursday at the McDonald Center before the puck drops on the Cook Inlet Conference Tournament that begins Monday with games at the Mac and Ben Boeke in Anchorage.
Eagle River fell 3-2 to West Anchorage on Tuesday in the tuneup for Chugiak.
McEnaney added a pair of assists with his two goals against West Valley, including one to Tucker Lien, who had the other goal for the Wolves plus two assists. Lien had both goals for Eagle River in its loss to West on Tuesday.
Goalie Ryan Gray posted 29 saves on 32 shots by West Valley, and had another 27 saves against West.

Nick Silance scored the lone goal for Eagle River, assisted by McEnaney, in the Wolves’ lone nonconference loss up North.
Eagle River 3, North Pole 0
Nielsen padded his weekend totals with two goals and two assists in the Wolves’ shutout win against North Pole, with Gray stopping all 29 shots.
Silance broke up Nielsen’s two goals with one of his own in the second period.
Chugiak hockey drops pair before closing season versus Eagle River
The Mustangs will enter their season finale against Eagle River on a slide after dropping their last two games following a 7-2 rout of Bartlett last Thursday.
Chugiak lost 3-2 to Service on Saturday lost to South 4-0 on Tuesday.
Grant Epple, who had two goals and an assist in the 7-2 win against Bartlett, had both of the Mustangs’ goals against Service.
