Items in the Police Briefs are taken from the Anchorage Police Department’s online crime mapping system; details about individual events are provided by the department’s public information office. Defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.


July 17
DUI— An officer started to follow a vehicle on the Glenn Highway for speed enforcement. The vehicle was going more than 80 mph when the officer finally pulled the driver over at the Peters Creek exit in Chugiak. Police arrested Leslie Faglie, 29, of Wasilla on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Sunday, June 26

Abuse— Police responded to an incident in the 11600 block of Celestial in Eagle River.

Accident –Police responded to a motor vehicle accident on Glenn Highway near Chugiak.

Tuesday, June 28

Accident – Police responded to a motor vehicle accident by Eklutna Flats. A vehicle hit and killed a moose.

A charity came and collected the moose.

Wednesday, June 29

The following items are from the Anchorage Police Department logs from June 19 to 25, for the Chugiak-Eagle River area.


June 19

Assault – Police responded to an altercation between a boyfriend and girlfriend in the 18300 block of Hidden Falls in Eagle River. No arrests were made.

Burglary – Caller reported that someone broke into their car in the past couple of weeks and stole a shotgun and ammunition. The car was parked in a garage in the 23000 block of Ross Voyles in Chugiak.

June 11

Accident -- Vehicle was in inbound lanes moved to outbound, crashed through retaining wall at the 22200 block of Birchwood Loop in Chugiak.

Threat – An Eagle River caller reported being threatened by the girlfriend of the boss’s husband, police took a report.

June 12

Fraud – A Chugiak caller said they had sent money to someone to buy a dog, but the breeder did not send the dog.

May 22

Vandalism—Police responded to a report of vandalism, the caller’s foster child had taken an ax to a boat at 10300 Lieselotte, Eagle River.

May 23

Trespass—Caller said a man, who may have been intoxicated, wandered into their home, but was gone by the time police arrived. The report came from the block of 21000 Bill Stephens, Eagle River.

Assault—An altercation between a husband and wife was reported in the 12400 block of Lake, Eagle River. Police responded, no arrests were made.

The following items were compiled from the Anchorage Police Department call logs for the week of March 21 to 26 for the Chugiak-Eagle River area.

March 21

Burglary: Unknown suspects broke through the window of a coffee shop and then broke the door of the business on the 13000 block of Old Glenn Highway.

Burglary: Caller reported businesses next to one another were broken into over the weekend. The businesses are located in the 12800 block of Old Glenn Highway.

A teacher at the private Birchwood Christian School housed in theCrossing church on North Birchwood Loop was arrested Oct. 6 by the Anchorage Police Department charged with five counts of second-degree sexual abuse of a minor, according to an APD statement.

Oly Sugay, a 34-year-old information technology instructor at the school for the past year, was remanded to the Anchorage Jail with a bail of $7,500 cash-corporate with a third-party stipulation.
