Eagle River, Chugiak battle down to the wire in tennis
Eagle River’s girls dominated to lead the Wolves to a narrow 5-4 win over Chugiak at Chugiak High on Aug. 29.
Chaunti Hall and Dylan Pruner each won their singles matches and the doubles teams of Claire Bottini/Hannah Spainhour and Tori Fishburn/Maggie Wallace also picked up victories for Eagle River, which won five of eight contested matches. The Wolves also got a win from Brody Schuyler in boys singles.
Jim Marchlinski defeated Jacob Klaameyer in the No. 1 boys singles match for Chugiak, which won both boys doubles matches thanks to the work of Nate House/Josh Keller and Nick Schwenne/Chris Moore.
Forrest Campnell and Kirsten Brueggemann won the day’s most competitive match, beating the team of Quinn Hulse and Kendall Mullins 11-9 in a tiebreaker.
Pruner has been the hottest local tennis player of late, winning her last three matches. Hall’s win gave her two straight wins after picking up a victory in Eagle River’s 6-3 loss to Service on Aug. 25.
