Eagle River American Legion edges Chugiak

After seeing a five-run lead disappear in the top of the seventh, Eagle River remained composed and scored a run in the bottom of the inning to earn a 6-5 win over rival Chugiak Post 33 in a seven-inning American Legion game Monday, July 2 at Loretta French Park.

Greg Long smacked the game-winning hit over the Chugiak third baseman’s head to score Kyle Frost.

With the win, Eagle River improved to 7-9 overall while Chugiak fell to 7-8 overall.

After six scoreless innings, Chugiak rallied in the seventh.

After Brad Cooper and Morgan Spohn scored, Conner Cimmiyotti hit a two-run double. Deven Ferris immediately followed with a double to score Cimmiyotti and tie the game at 5.

Eagle River took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning. After David Fuller hit an RBI triple to score Ricky Ayala, Colby LeBlanc brought Fuller home.

Eagle River took a 4-0 lead in the fourth when Chris Parker smacked a two-run double to score Long and Collin Metzel.

A sacrifice fly by Zach Weller scored Fuller in the fifth to give Eagle River a 5-0 advantage.

Fuller threw a complete game and struck out six en route to the win for Eagle River.
