Anchorage Fire Department crews from Station 11 in Eagle River and Station 14 off Tudor Road in Anchorage responded to a home fire at 6741 Waterfall Drive off Hiland Road Feb. 10.

According to fire department deputy chief Erich Sheunemann, the homeowners called to report the fire after they saw some smoke in their South Fork residence just before 3:30 p.m.

"It took a little over 10 minutes for the truck from Station 11 to arrive on the scene," Scheunemann said. "Since there are no fire hydrants in the area a tender truck from Station 14 and from the Chugiak volunteers were also dispatched as well."

Scheunemann said the truck from Chugiak was returned to its station after the initial crew determined the nature of the fire.

Everyone in the home made it out safely and there were no reported injuries.

The fire was extinguished in 15 minutes and damaged was contained to the upstairs area of the home.

"Most of the damage inside is from smoke," Scheunemann said. "There was some roof damage as well."

Crews are unsure how the fire started and it is under investigation.

Scheunemann said assistance from the now-closed South Fork Auxiliary Station off Hiland Road would not have made a difference in fighting this fire.
