Wasilla woman killed on Glenn
Doreen Deason, 67, of Wasilla was killed Saturday when the Chevrolet Tahoe she was driving crashed on the Glenn Highway between the Eagle River Bridge and the Hiland Road exit.
A report from the Anchorage Police Department said Deason was southbound about 3:30 p.m. when she encountered a pickup truck that had either slowed down or come to a complete stop on the highway. Deason was unable to stop her vehicle and she collided with the other truck at what the police called "a high rate of speed."
Two people who were passengers in Deason's truck were transported to Alaska Regional Hospital, where they received medical treatment. They are Gordon Scarbrow, 69, and Lavina Scarbrow, 70, both of England.
The driver of the pickup truck, Majorie A. Houser, 67, and a passenger, Wilford Houser, 71, both of Anchorage, were also treated at Alaska Regional Hospital.
The Housers told police they had pulled off the side of the road to retrieve a mattress that came out of the bed of the truck, according to a press release from the police. However, that press release also said the Scarbrows allege the pickup was stopped in the roadway.
