Bruce Hammond

Former Chugiak resident Bruce D. Hammond, 45, died July 2, 2008, at Mercy Hospital in Portland, Maine.

A memorial service was held Monday at Neal & York Funeral Home in Porter, Maine. The Rev. Alan Cogswell officiated.

Bruce was born June 11, 1963, in West Point, N.Y., to Jackson E. and Patricia E. Fagan Hammond. He moved to Alaska with his family in 1969.

He was educated in Chugiak Elementary and Greuning Middle schools, and graduated from Chugiak High School and from a Phoenix trade school.

As a teenager, Bruce was a member of the Eagle River Boy Scouts and reached Eagle Scout, the highest level in scouting.

He worked as a logistical manager for RG&B Services of Anchorage. He left Alaska in 2006.

Bruce was an outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, motorcycle riding and competitions, snowmobiling and much more.

He is survived by his parents of Parsonsfield, Maine; sons, Ryan and Brennon, both of Wasilla; and brothers, Michael of Reno, Nev., and Chris of Palm Bay, Fla.
