Locals to compete in Miss Alaska pageant

Miss Birchwood 2008 Stephany Jeffers, Miss Chugiak-Eagle River 2008 Sarah Temple, Miss Chugiak-Eagle Rivers Outstanding Teen 2008 Veronica Temple, and Miss Birchwoods Outstanding Teen 2008 Sierra Slade will all compete Saturday at the Wendy Willliamson Auditorium in Anchorage for Miss Alaska and Miss Alaska Outstanding Teen.

Miss Alaska Scholarship Foundation will crown its 50th Miss Alaska and Miss Alaska Outstanding Teen this Saturday. There are 11 competing for the main crown and six vying for the teen award. Local competitors include Miss Birchwood 2008 Stephany Jeffers, Miss Chugiak-Eagle River 2008 Sarah Temple, Miss Chugiak-Eagle River's Outstanding Teen 2008 Veronica Temple, Miss Birchwood's Outstanding Teen 2008 Sierra Slade

The new Miss Alaska winners will go on to compete in the Miss America and Miss America Outstanding Teen pageants.

Prizes for the competition include tuition waivers to University of Alaska, cash scholarships, custom jewelry, and wardrobe, hair and beauty services and supplies.

The pageant is Saturday at the Wendy Williamson Auditorium at 7 p.m. Advance tickets are $30 or $15 for military, seniors over 65, students and children (identification is required). Tickets are $40 or $25 at the door.
