Chugiak resident Maisie Mongeau, 67, died Sept. 16, 2009, at her home.

A service was held Sept. 24 at Evergreen Memorial Chapel in Anchorage with the Rev. Eric Wiseman officiating. She will be laid to rest in Newfoundland, Canada.

Maisie was born Aug. 21, 1941, in Newfoundland. She became a resident of Alaska in July of 1973.

Her family wrote: "Our old friend Gadfly 'Frenchy,' retired executive chef, was instrumental in Maisie's culinary education. She was always by Frenchy's side as his sous chef and sidekick. She was always willing to help the less fortunate and the needy. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend who gave everything and wanted nothing in return. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew her."

Survivors include her husband, Claude "Frenchy" Mongeau of Chugiak; son Toby Allen of New York; daughters, Renee Broadwater of Alabama, and Denise McShane of California; grandsons, Sean McShane, Kye and Devin Broadwater of Alabama, and Zachary Allen of New York; and granddaughter, Menina Allen of New York.

Memorial donations may be made to the Alaska SPCA, 549 W. International Airport Road, Suite B-2, Anchorage, AK99518.

Arrangements are with Janssen's Evergreen Memorial Chapel.
