Baumgardner, 76, built many of the roads in Eagle River

Dewey E. Baumgardner, 76, died at home in Eagle River, on Saturday, Dec. 5, 2009.

A celebration-of-life service will be at 3 p.m. Jan. 9, 2010, at the First Church of God, 4317 MacInnes St. in Anchorage, with the Rev. Steven Myers officiating.

Born Oct. 28, 1933, in Marie, W.Va., Dewey was a son of the late William and Fannie Baumgardner.

Dewey entered the Air Force in 1954 and was relocated to Alaska in 1955. After his discharge in 1958, he served nearly 25 years with the Civil Service at Elmendorf Air Force Base in the parachute and fabric shop.

Later he became owner/operator of D.E.B. Trucking. Dewey was involved with the Antique Automushers of Alaska and was an active member of the First Church of God in Anchorage.

He is survived by his wife, Wynoaka Baumgardner; daughters Carla Stephenson and Keri Schroeder; son-in-law Jon Schroeder; sister Jaunita (Faye) Wright of Buffalo, Mo.; and brother Charles (Bud) Baumgardner of Fredericksburg, Va.
