Day, 78, enjoyed mowing the grass and sending Christmas cards

Dec. 29, 1930 - Nov. 29, 2009

Former resident John Lloyd Day, 78, died Nov. 29, 2009, at Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis, from injuries due to an automobile vehicle accident on Nov. 20, 2009.

John was born Dec. 29, 1930, in Kansas City, Mo., to Elijah and Beulah Day. On June 26, 1951, he married Dolores May (Chiha) Day, who survives.

John served his country for 32 years in the Air Force. He was a Master Mason, belonging to the Masonic lodge for 50 years. He was an active member of the Shiners Club and was also a member of Shiloh Lutheran Church in Walton.

He enjoyed being a follower of Christ serving his community, volunteering his time and skills. He enjoyed mowing grass for the Sangrela Valley in Onward and enjoyed very much sending Christmas cards all over the world. He loved most of all spending time with his family and his best friend "Dolly," his dog.

Survivors include his wife, Dolores; children, Deborah Horner, Logansport, David Day, Wasilla, Alaska, Daniel Day, Walton, Dianna Sivits and Donna and husband, Thomas Rowan, both of Logansport, Denise and husband, Willard Wray III, Galveston, and Darrell and wife, Christine Day, Columbus; brother, Harold and Mary Ann Day, Raymore, Mo.; sisters, Ellen Perdee, Adriane Mo., Betty and husband, Jerry Loveland, Kansas City, Mo.; 15 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Margaret Hughes; and his son, Dewayne.

A memorial service was held at the Shiloh Lutheran Church in Walton, Ind.

Murray-Weaver Funeral Home in Galveston is in charge of arrangements.
