THURSDAY HOCKEY: Wolves, Mustangs host nonconference foes

Eagle River ran into a wall named Keel Simon on Thursday night. The Wolves peppered the West Valley goalie with 50 shots, but could only manage a single goal in their 1-1 nonconference draw with the Wolfpack at the McDonald Center in Eagle River. West Valley’s Dylan Savereide and Eagle River’s Sutton McDonald had the game’s only goals, both coming in the second period. Logan Dudinsky assisted on McDonald's score. The Wolves outshot West Valley 51-20, including an 8-1 edge in the overtime period. Brendan Whetsell turned back 19 shots for Eagle River. Next up for the Wolves is a nonconference game against Juneau on Saturday, Jan. 14 at 2:45 p.m. at the Mac. Eagle River returns to Cook Inlet Conference play on Tuesday, Jan. 17 at 7:15 p.m. at the Mac. In the first varsity game of the night Thursday, Chugiak turned a 1-0 first-period deficit into an 8-1 rout over non conference Juneau.
