Eagle River boys win Nikiski hoops tournament

Eagle River’s boys basketball team will be returning from its trip to the Kenai Peninsula with a nice souvenir.

The Wolves earned the tournament trophy after defeating Kodiak 61-38 in the final game of the Nikiski Tip-Off tournament at Nikiski High. The Wolves went 3-0 in the tourney, defeating the host Bulldogs 63-43 on Thursday and defeating the West JV team 67-28 on Friday.

In Saturday’s finale, Daniel Toribo led the Wolves with 16 points, Savon Wilson had 14, Bryson Rollman had 13 and Aaron Davis added 11 as the Wolves used a 22-8 third quarter to pull away.

Wilson was named the tournament MVP and was joined on the all-tourney team by Rollman.

Eagle River's next game is against West at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 24 at Eagle River.
