Mardis graduates basic with honors

U.S. Air Force Airman 1st Class Branden Mardis recently graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in San Antonio, Texas. Mardis — who earned distinction as an honor graduate — completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles. Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate degree in applied science through the Community College of the Air Force.

Mardis is a 2009 graduate of Eagle River High School and also received an associate degree from UAA in 2013. He is the son of Robert and Debra Mardis of Eagle River.

Cookson graduates from Gonzaga

Eagle River’s Jamie Cookson graduated from Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington during the university’s commencement exercises on Sunday, May 7 at Spokane’s Veterans’ Memorial Arena.

Whaley earns 3 degrees from UAF

Chugiak’s Parker Alan Whaley graduated from the University of Alaska Fairbanks during the university’s spring commencement exercises Saturday, May 6, 2017 in Fairbanks. Whaley graduated magna cum laude and received bachelor’s degrees in physics, mathematics and computer science. Whaley is a 2012 graduate of Chugiak High School and the son of Stephanie Whaley of Chugiak and Al Whaley of Anchorage.

Lamson graduates with honors

Katelyn Anne Lamson, a 2010 graduate of Chugiak High School, graduated magna cum laude from American University in Washington D.C. on Sunday, May 14, 2017 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Studies concentrating on Economics and National Security. Lamson was also inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. She is the daughter of Lewis and Patti Lamson of Eagle River.

Shortridge makes short list

Eagle River’s Andrew Shortridge has been named to the 2017 spring semester dean’s list at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. To qualify for the dean’s list, students must have at least a 3.5 GPA with no grade lower than a C while taking at least 12 credits.

McGrew named to Baylor honor roll

Eagle River’s Jessica McGrew was named to the spring semester dean’s academic honor roll at Baylor University in Waco, Texas. McGrew graduated this spring from the university’s School of Education with a degree in B.S. in Family & Consumer Science, Child and Family Studies.

Friedli named to dean’s list

Eagle River’s Kaitlin Friedli has been named to the 2017 spring semester dean’s list at Gonzage University in Spokane, Washington. To be named to the list, students must earn at least a 3.5 GPA

Randall graduates from Gonzaga

Eagle River’s Alyssa Randall graduated from Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington during the university’s commencement exercises on Sunday, May 7 at Spokane’s Veterans’ Memorial Arena.
