PREP HOCKEY: Wolves rally for Senior Night win

Eagle River 4, Bartlett 3

Eagle River avenged a previous loss to Bartlett with a 4-3 Cook Inlet Conference hockey win over the Golden Bears on Senior Night at the McDonald Center in Eagle River.

Tucker Lien had a hat trick for the Wolves, who lost to Bartlett by the same score last month.

The Wolves had to twice battle back from deficits to improve to 5-7 in the CIC.

Bartlett (1-10) struck first Saturday, getting a goal by Bradley Mackin less than two minutes in with the Golden Bears using an extra skater due to Sal Demma’s boarding penalty.

Eagle River took the lead in the second on goals by Tucker Lien and Nick Silance, but Bartlett equalized with just 15 seconds left in the period on a strike by Mark Abrego.

Bartlett went up 3-2 with nine minutes left in the third period on a goal by Owen Wilson.

But Lien answered late, getting the game-tying goal with 5:06 to play and the game-winner with 1:51 to go off assists from Silance and Ty McEnaney.

Eagle River embarks on a three-game Interior road trip Jan. 18-20, with games scheduled against North Pole Thursday at 6:45 p.m., Lathrop Friday at 4:30 p.m. and West Valley Saturday at 12:45 p.m.

Wasilla 8, Chugiak 1

Wasilla handed Chugiak an 8-1 nonconference defeat on Tuesday, Jan. 16 at the Brett Memorial Ice Arena in Wasilla.

Chugiak 3, East 1

Chugiak got goals from Grant Epple, Luke Momblow and Ryan Flodin to move to .500 in the Cook Inlet Conference with a 3-1 win over East on Friday, Jan. 12 at Ben Boeke Ice Arena in Anchorage.

Tyler, Huffer, George Kerr, Jarett Beckett and Riley Lindberg had assists for the Mustangs, who improved to 5-5 in the CIC.

Tanner Holta stopped 18 of 19 shots for the Mustangs, who outshot the T-birds 32-19. Lane Fox made 29 saves for East (1-10).

West Valley 4, Eagle River 0

West Valley handed Eagle River a 4-0 nonconference home loss Thursday, Jan. 11 at the McDonald Center in Eagle River. The Wolfpack scored all four of their goals on the power play, getting a first-period strike from Coleman Baxter and second-period goals from Baxter, Anton Rupper and Kaiden Hafele.

Simon Atkinson saved eight shots to get the shutout for West Valley, which outshot Eagle River 36-8.

Ryan Gray stopped 32 shots for the Wolves.
