Gunplay leads to arrest of 2 Eagle River men
Two Eagle River men were arrested on gun charges after a May 18 shooting incident in Chugiak.
According to police, on May 18 at around 5:10 p.m., an APD officer was flagged down by someone who said several people were standing outside a parked Chevy Blazer near the intersection of Birchwood Spur and Stoltze Road, and that one of the people was shooting into the woods.
Police said when the officer arrived, the people had already gotten back into the Blazer. The officer then allegedly watched as one person threw a pistol out the window.
After contacting the occupants of the vehicle, police said they determined the gun was thrown by Robert J. Carlton, 19, of Eagle River, and a records check showed the gun was stolen out of a vehicle in October, 2017. According to APD, another passenger in the vehicle, Brock E. Werder, 20, of Eagle River, was found with a handgun in his pocket. Police said Werder is a convicted felon and thus prohibited from being in possession of a handgun.
Police arrested Carlton on charges of fifth-degree misconduct involving a weapon, second-degree theft and tampering with physical evidence; Werder was arrested for second- and third-degree misconduct involving a weapon.
Police said four juveniles in the vehicle were released to their parents.
