Drunk and disorderly: APD says one impaired driver drove with kids in the car, another followed woman to the grocery store

Cops say man drove drunk with kids in the car

On Aug. 10 at around 2:37 a.m., police got a call from someone who said they spotted a PT Cruiser driving erratically on the Glenn Highway. Police said an officer arrived and stopped the vehicle, at which point the driver, Jaime Garcia, 40, of Wasilla was arrested for operating under the influence. Police said Garcia had children in the vehicle at the time, and he was additionally charged with reckless endangerment.

Road rage leads to man’s arrest

On Aug. 11 at around 4 p.m., police were called by a woman reporting a “road rage” incident. According to police, the woman said she was driving behind a Subaru that allegedly drove the wrong way down the road, stopped in traffic for no reason and sat at a green light in an intersection. The woman told police she honked her horn at the Subaru and was able to pass.

The woman told police she drove to Carrs in Eagle River and noticed the Subaru was following her. When she parked, a man allegedly parked the Subaru behind her, got out and started yelling at the woman.

The woman called police, and officers located the Subaru in a different part of the parking lot. Police said the man, identified as Joe I. Pringle, 62, of Eagle River, was arrested on a charge of operating under the influence.

Man arrested for DUI

On Aug. 12 at around 12 a.m., police stopped a vehicle for allegedly speeding on the Glenn Highway and arrested driver Ernesto Avila, 44, of Wasilla for operating under the influence.

Mustang speeds off, gets impounded

On Aug. 7 at around 12:33 a.m., an APD officer tried to stop a Ford Mustang that was allegedly driving 100 MPH on the Glenn Highway. Police said the officer ended the pursuit after the driver failed to yield. Shortly after the brief pursuit, a different officer found the vehicle abandoned near the intersection of Eklutna Park Drive and Koso Drive. Police said the vehicle was impounded and a case is pending.

Unlocked vehicle stolen with keys inside

On Aug. 7 at around 10 p.m., police received a report that a Chevy Equinox with its keys inside was stolen from a location on Rainbow Circle. As of Monday, the vehicle had not been recovered.

Police investigate door damage

On Aug. 9 at around 9 a.m., police were called by an apartment manager who said he’d screwed a door shut on an apartment on the Old Glenn Highway after vacating the tenants. More than a week later, the manager discovered the door had been pried open, causing damage. Police said it was unknown if any items were missing.

Light bars stolen from church

On Aug. 10 at around 11:30 a.m., police received a report that locks had been broken off two sheds and a trailer at a church on Birchwood Loop. Police said nothing appeared to have been taken from the sheds, but two LED light bars were stolen from a pair of church-owned vehicles.
