Woman arrested, 2 juveniles hospitalized after Old Glenn collision
A 60-year-old woman was arrested for operating under the influence Sunday after the vehicle she was driving struck two juveniles on bicycles at the intersection of the Old Glenn Highway and Coronado Road in Eagle River.
According to the Anchorage Police Department, Vicie Zielinski was driving a silver 2014 Subaru that struck a male and female juvenile on the sidewalk alongside the Old Glenn.
“The preliminary investigation found that a male juvenile and female juvenile were riding their bikes on the sidewalk of the Old Glenn Highway when a silver 2014 Subaru drove onto the sidewalk as if it were making a lane change,” police wrote. “The vehicle accelerated to a high rate of speed and struck both juveniles head on. Both juvenile victims were still conscious and breathing when medics arrived. They were immediately transported to the hospital with serious injuries. Several witnesses remained on scene to give statements to police.”
Police said officers gave Zielinski a field sobriety test before placing her under arrest. The southbound lanes of the Old Glenn were blocked off while officers conducted an investigation.
On Sunday evening, the Subaru was still sitting alongside the Old Glenn just past where two damaged bicycles lay on on the sidewalk as police investigated the scene.
