Merry Marmot Festival set for Saturday at Arctic Valley
Arctic Valley’s annual spring fling is set for Saturday, March 30 starting at 11 a.m.
The 15th annual Merry Marmot Festival is a daylong event that features everything from fat tire bike races to a downhill dummy launch.
The festival begins at 11 a.m. at Arctic Valley, a nonprofit ski area located at the end of Arctic Valley Road. The first event of the day is a fat tire bike race, followed by a 3-person relay race, dual slalom races, tube races in the tube park, a kids snowshoe race, a “Chinese” downhilll costume contest race and the famous dummy launch, in which competitors create dummies on skis or snowboards to be launched off a jump. There’s also live music all day starting at noon and going through the 8:30 p.m. end of the festival.
The Blue & Gold Boardshop will present a “Legends of Alaska showcase and halfpipe jam,” and Peppercini’s will provide a taco bar for dinner.
The festival is free, but there’s a $25 entry fee ($10 for kids and $50 for a family) to participate in the slalom, the 3-person relay race, the tubing races, the kids’ snowshoe race and the mass downhill costume contest. Competitors can pay once to enter as many of those events as they wish. The fat tire bike races and dummy launch are premium events and also have a $25 entry fee.
