FOCUS 5K returns to its roots for 3rd annual event
The 3rd Annual FOCUS Family 5K race will be held Saturday, April 27, at 10 a.m. in the Eklutna lot across from Fred Meyer in Eagle River.
The 5-kilometer walk/run fundraiser for the Eagle River nonprofit costs $35 to enter and includes a race T-shirt. There will be a DJ, food trucks, water stations and activities for kids. Age-group winners will be presented medals made by artists in the FOCUS after-school program and its adult meet-up groups.
There will be a bib pick-up event from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, April 25 at Odd Man Rush Brewing (10930 Mausel Street) in Eagle River.
This year’s 5K race course will follow a rectangular layout that will run from the start/finish line along the Old Glenn Highway to Fire Lake, where participants will cross over to the bike path alongside the Glenn Highway for the return trip to the Eklutna lot. The course is the same as the innaugural race in 2017; last year’s event made a loop around Eagle River that started and ended on Regency Drive.
Last year, Chaven Davidson won his second straight FOCUS title in a record 19 minutes, 6 seconds while Karen Kirk claimed her first women’s title in 22:04, also a record.
