Alice Mae’s is getting a new look.

The gas station, convenience store, liquor store and laundromat formerly known as Alice Mae’s and The Shopper’s Cache located at 19223 Old Glenn Highway was purchased in February by Anchorage-based Vitus Energy and is currently undergoing a full makeover and name change. The first signs of the overhaul were seen late last week when the old Alice Mae’s signage was taken down and replaced.

A company spokesperson said much more is to come over the next two months, including a full remodel of the interior of the store, new bathrooms, a soft-serve ice cream machine, new flooring and more. The company recently completed a similar remodel at the Longmere Lake convenience/liquor store in Sterling, and customers can expect a similar look at the Chugiak store.

Vitus provides fuel delivery to Western Alaska communities including Bethel, Kotzebue and Dillingham. The company has recently been getting into the retail business through its Vitus Terminals division. In addition to the Sterling and Chugiak stores, the company also runs a retail service in St. Michael, according to its website.
