Fire crews contain South Fork blaze, say homes not in danger
A brush fire that broke out overnight near the South Fork Eagle River trailhead is under control and does not pose a threat to nearby homes, according to the Anchorage Fire Department.
The fire is about a half-acre in size and burning on the mountain side of the South Fork trail near Mile 7 of Hiland Road.
“State of Alaska Division of Forestry fire crews are on location and will continue to work on supression throughout the day,” the department wrote in an online Nixle alert about the fire, which noted residents will continue to see smoke but that there is no danger to homes or no evacuation needed.
The alert did not say what caused the fire.
