Police say man brandished handgun, kicked in ex’s door and left with 2-year-old child
Police arrested a 26-year-old Georgia man on Tuesday afternoon after he allegedly kicked-in his ex-girlfriend’s door while armed with a handgun and physically removed a 2-year-old child from the woman’s apartment.
According to APD spokeswoman Renee Oistad, Ostin D. McNeil-Vaneck of Fort Benning, Georgia pulled up to an apartment building on Heritage Court and blocked the ex-girlfriend’s vehicle in with his own before hitting the hood of her vehicle with a handgun. He then allegedly kicked in the door, pushed the woman out of the way, kicked in the children’s bedroom and took the girl from the residence. McNeil-Vaneck also allegedly threw the woman’s cell phone while inside the apartment.
As he was leaving the scene, police said McNeil-Vaneck pulled alongside two people in the ex-girlfriend’s vehicle and pointed a gun at them.
Police said they were able to speak with McNeil-Vaneck over the phone, but he would not tell them where he and his daughter were. During their attempts to locate him, officers got a warrant for third-degree assault, fourth-degree domestic violence assault, first-degree burglary, two counts of reckless endangerment, third-degree criminal mischief and interfering with the report of a domestic violence crime.
About six hours after the first report, police said they received a tip that McNeil-Vaneck was at a location on Ganoe Street. When officers arrived, McNeil-Vaneck walked outside and was taken into custody without incident. Police said the child was uninjured.
