Community councils return from summer break
Fall means hunting, football and the return to normalcy for the area’s community councils.
All five local councils that meet regularly have meetings in September after most took the summer off. The first will be the South Fork Community Council on Thursday, Sept. 5 at Eagle River High at 7 p.m.
Community councils serve in an advisory role to the Anchorage Assembly. Although the groups’ decisions have no force of law, Assembly members do give their opinions a certain amount of weight and local Assembly members regularly attend council meetings or send representatives to observe.
Most councils post agendas on their individual websites, which can be found at communitycouncils.org. There are six local councils in Chugiak-Eagle River: Birchwood, Chugiak, Eagle River, Eagle River Valley, South Fork and Eklutna Valley. However, the Eklutna Valley council only meets on an infrequent basis.
