PREP SPORTS ROUND-UP: Mustangs best rivals in flag football, tennis

Chugiak won a rivalry flag football game Tuesday, Sept. 17, knocking off Eagle River 25-0 at ERHS.

Aleah Madsen scored two touchdown for the Mustangs, who also got one each from Averie Carlos and Brooke Storen.


Dimond 3, Eagle River 0

Dimond won a three-set (25-0, 25-16, 25-12) Cook Inlet Conference volleyball match against Eagle River Tuesday, Sept. 17 at Eagle River.

Katyrie Brown had five kills and 12 digs for the Wolves, who also got five kills from Chloie Garber and 11 digs from Liz Ruehle.

Kadyn Osborne had eight kills to lead the Lynx.


Chugiak 5, Dimond 4

Chugiak picked up a narrow Cook Inlet Conference tennis win over Dimond Tuesday at the Alaska Club East in Anchorage.

The Mustangs swept all four singles matches, with Riley Fugere and Tyler Winborg winning the boys matches and Gmilee Groth and Risa Otani taking care of things on the girls’ side.

Francis Wanek and Bethany Kesler sealed the team win with a 6-2, 6-1 mixed doubles win over Sojin Choi and Averyl Cobb.

Chugiak 6, Eagle River 3

Chugiak earned a 6-3 prep tennis win over Eagle River Friday, Sept. 13 in the final outdoor match of the season. The match was a make-up from a match rained out earlier this fall.

The Mustangs got wins from Riley Fugere in boys No. 1 singles, Emilee Groth in girls No. 1 singles, Enrique Osses and Matthew Keller in boys No. 2 doubles, Megan Anshutz and Tyanna Melak in girls No. 1 doubles and Francis Wanek and Bethany Kesler in mixed doubles.

The Wolves picked up wins from Stefan Retzlaff (boys No. 2 singles), Taiten Cogswwell/Griffin Marson (boys No. 1 doubles), and Lili Singleton/Lila Wegener (girls No. 2 doubles).
