Hockey, bowling teams sidelined after ASD cancels after-school activities due to icy weather
Icy roads have forced the cancellation of Anchorage School District after-school activities for Thursday, Nov. 14.
The decision was announced Thursday afternoon on the district’s website, which cited deterorating weather conditions. It does not affect the state volleyball tournament, which began today at the Alaska Airlines Center.
Local athletes impacted by the cancellations include the Chugiak boys hockey team, which was scheduled to host Service tonight at the McDonald Center, and local high school bowlers, whose season was scheduled to begin this afternoon at Center Bowl in Anchorage.
As for Thursday afternoon the events had yet to be rescheduled.
The Anchorage area was hit with light rain starting Wednesday night, with side streets and some main roads becoming icy as Thursday wore on.
