Chugiak boys finish on a high note at Prep Shootout
The Chugiak boys basketball team ended the Dimond Prep Shootout boys basketball tournament with a 61-41 win over Kodiak Saturday to claim seventh place.
Chugiak had the lead after the first quarter for the third staight game and this time the lead stood up. The Mustangs were never seriously threatened, leading 33-21 at halftime and pushing their lead to as many as 22 points down the stretch.
Owen Lewis and Zach Cole led all scorers with 18 points each, Austin Harr chipped in 10 and Jared Parks added nine for Chugiak, which shot 46% from the floor while holding the Bears to just 27% shooting. Kellen beam added four points and tied Cole for a team-high six rebounds, while Lewis dished a game-high five assists.
Juneau-Douglas 59, Chugiak 55
Cooper Kriegmont scored a game-high 30 points to lead Juneau-Douglas into the tournament’s third-place game Friday with a 59-55 win over Chugiak in the consolation round of the Dimond Prep Shootout.
The Mustangs led 24-15 after the first half but fell victim to a 17-4 Juneau run in the third quarter.
Josh Cardon had a team-high 16 points and Austin Harr added 13 points and seven rebounds for the Mustangs.
