Woman arrested for impaired driving after car hits tree

Police arrested a 29-year-old Anchorage woman on Feb. 23 after she allegedly crashed her car into a tree near Mausel Street in Eagle River.
According to police, dispatchers received a call at around 1:26 a.m. from a resident who said a vehicle drove into her yard and struck a tree. When officers arrived, they said they found Bertha M. Charlie in the driver’s seat trying to get the vehicle unstuck from the snow.
Police said Charlie was arrested on a charge of operating under the influence and taken to the Anchorage Jail.
Police make several impaired driving arrests
On Feb. 15 at around 1:34 a.m. police said a patrol officer stopped a pickup on the Glenn Highway for an improper lane change and arrested driver Jason J. Deighton, 29, of Eagle River for operating under the influence.
On Feb. 18 at around 4:31 a.m. police stopped a vehicle near Birchwood Loop after an officer allegedly watched it drive through a stop sign and arrested driver Alexander Hurte, 46, of Anchorage for operating under the influence.
On Feb. 23 at around 4 p.m. police stopped a vehicle on the Glenn Highway and arrested driver Diane M. Pickens, 55, of Anchorage for felony operating under the influence for having three or more such charges in the last 10 years.
Family violence reported
On Feb. 16 at around 6:37 p.m. police were called to a residence for a report of family violence and found Jocelyn S.L. Mockta, 32, of Bethel was drinking while visiting family and allegedly grabbed and pushed two family members. Mockta was arrested on two counts of domestic violence assault.
On Feb. 20 at around 6:21 a.m. police received a report that Tricia R. Charlie, 24, of Eagle River allegedly scratched and bit her boyfriend at their home. Charlie was arrested for domestic violence assault.
On Feb. 22 at around 8:30 p.m. police received a report that Christopher J. Hamilton, 39, of Anchorage got into an argument with his girlfriend during which time he “attempted to hit their dog, slammed his hands on the furniture, yelled, and threw items around the room,” police wrote. Hamilton was arrested on one count of domestic violence assault.
Student busted for vaping
On Feb. 19 at around 10:30 a.m. police received a report that a student at Chugiak High smoked a THC vape on school grounds. Charges were forwarded to the Department of Juvenile Justice, police said.
Construction site burglarized
On Feb. 20 at around 7:41 p.m. police received a report that an unoccupied residence under construction alongside the Old Glenn Highway had been burglarized.
