Warren Bert Elkins of Chugiak died of natural causes on Friday, Dec. 9, 2011. He was 59.

In 1977, he moved to Alaska as a musician and co-owner of the former Budget Tapes and Records in Anchorage. He retired from the military and worked in a variety of departments in the Municipality of Anchorage and most recently as a systems analyst for AWWU. He was an avid musician, playing guitar and keyboard, writing music and playing since high school. He loved to cook, travel and explore the outdoors while fishing, hunting, and camping with family and friends in Alaska and Montana.

“Warren was a true example of a man dedicated to his family and his church, serving on the worship team at the Crossing at Birchwood Church for the last 9 years. Warren was a man some would call the last true ‘Renaissance Man,’ as he was always available to help out family, friends and strangers with any task that was asked of him,” his family wrote.

He is survived by his wife, Robyn Rockwell; mother-in-law, Norma Rockwell of Santa Rosa, Calif.; daughter, Alieta Robison of Missoula, Mont.; sons, Shea Corbin Elkins of Anchorage and Alex and Carson Elkins of Chugiak; and grandsons, Braydon Elkins of Anchorage and Sean O'Connor of Missoula.

He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Clint and Ginny Elkins, sister and brother-in-law, Wanda and Tom Ehlert, and brother and sister-in-law Bart and Ramona Elkins, all of whom reside in Montana.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Vida Sybrant Elkins.

A memorial service was held Jan. 5 at the Crossing at Birchwood Church in Chugiak and officiated by Pastor Brad Rud. A June memorial service will be held in Montana to celebrate Warren's life with his out of state family and friends. A memorial fund has been established on behalf of the Elkins Family at Alaska USA FCU.
