Nathanial Sebastian “Nate” Willeck, of Eagle River, died unexpectedly on Sunday, March 4, 2012. He was 25.

He was born February 9, 1987 at Wright-Patterson AFB in Dayton, Ohio. He traveled across the U.S. with his father’s Air Force career, and attended schools in Dayton, Las Vegas, and Eagle River. He graduated from Chugiak High School in 2005, where he played soccer. He attended college in Reno, Nev. and Tempe, Ariz. At the time of his death he was working on a mathematics degree for teaching at UAA.

Nate had a variety of work experiences in construction, retail, and warehouse. His construction work included installing a handicapped fishing platform at Centennial Park in Soldotna. His work took him to Arizona, Nevada and finally back to Eagle River and Anchorage.

He enjoyed fishing, camping, and playing cards with his many friends. Nate also enjoyed shooting rifles, pistols and shotguns. He was an avid sports fan and continued playing soccer until his death.

“Nate had a wonderful sense of humor and touched many more people than he will ever know,” his family said. “He will be deeply missed by his many friends and family.”

He is survived by his parents, Linda (Aldrich) and Denny Willeck, of Eagle River; sister, Hanne Willeck, of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; grandmothers, Florence Aldrich, of Duluth, Minn. and Ann Willeck, of Cloquet, Minn.; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

There will be an opportunity to say farewell to Nate on Friday, March 16, 2012 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Evergreen Memorial Chapel in Eagle River.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Nate Willeck Memorial Fund, account #3574874172 at any Wells Fargo facility in the name of Dennis or Linda Willeck. The family plans to make an annual scholarship donation in Nate’s name to help underprivileged children experience the game of soccer.
